Several years ago, I took a pair of GP-3's and tripods on a climbing expedition with International Mountain Guides to Mt. Cho Oyu. Mt. Cho Oyu is the 6th tallest mountain in the world, just 30 miles west of Mt. Everest, our approach was from the North through Tibet.
The GP-3s provide communications between camps and to climbers with handheld 2 meter radios. The equipment is now transported seasonally with the climbing Sherpa between Mt Cho Oyu and Mt. Everest basecamps.

This is the highest gain VHF/UHF base/repeater antenna made by Comet.

Although hundreds are in use in repeater systems, it was not designed for mountain-top installation where extremely high winds, ice and other extreme conditions exist.  It performs best in low to mid elevation installations where the high gain radiation pattern is most effective.
